To stream any video, from a live event to a recorded video file, you will need an encoder. Why? Videos come in all sorts of formats, but not all formats are compatible with every device and browser. By encoding videos into common formats (like H.264), we ensure that your content reaches the most devices possible. Our encoders also compress your media and control key factors like bit rate and resolution to make your content transmit smoothly to standard internet connections. We use multiple different encoding programs, the most popular of which are Flash and Windows Media. With the encoding software, we can help you choose your source and dictate how you want to stream your content (bit rate(s), resolution(s), video/audio format, frame rate, etc.). |

To broadcast a stream, you need our media servers. Our media servers receive your content signal (video or audio) and enable other computers and devices to access it. Typically, this is done with the help of a web server. For example, you may have a website that you want to stream on demand content from. The website itself is hosted on a web server. When someone visits your website, they can click on a video and it will be streamed to them from the media server. The user's computer will decode the signal to make it viewable on their computer (this is why you are often prompted to download Flash or other apps to watch videos in your browser). We provide both the servers and the bandwidth to host and stream your content. In essence, we are the bridge between you and any device around the world that wants to access your stream. |
